Have you heard of late start schools? Late start schools typically begin somewhere between 8:30 a.m., and some as late as 9:30 am. As you can imagine, this becomes a challenge for parents who are trying to make it to work on time. Not all schools start early, aligning with the work schedules of many parents. Flex now offers a morning before school enrichment program for students at Montgomery County Public Schools, and the PTAs are loving it. Flex and the PTAs at Carderock Springs Elementary and Rock Creek Forest Elementary also collaborated to develop an exciting morning program that meets the challenge of a 9:25 a.m. late start time and shows parents the value of a “morning before school” solution.
For parents and students living in a community with late start schools, vibrant, morning enrichment programs are a must. In addition to their educational value, these three activities can help jump start your student’s school day:
STEM in the AM
Kids get into the spirit of experimenting and evaluating information objectively with Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. These are valuable skills to acquire for the future, whether that’s later in life or later in the day!
Fun Fitness
Sports and fitness help children establish a pattern of physical activity and engage in a healthy lifestyle. Building self-esteem, leadership skills, and social skills benefits students by starting their day with positive energy.
World Languages
Exposing children to the world of languages allows them to optimize their learning potential, helping to shape the brain at its most flexible stage. Uniquely suited to learning a second language, young multilingual students have enhanced focus, memory, planning, and multitasking skills for the rest of their school day.
